Molybdenum Silicide
?
Molybdenum Disilicide is an organic compound. It has the chemical composition MoSi2. This is a gray metallic liquid. Although insoluble in many acids, it is soluble in nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid. Both the radii of these atoms do not differ much, the electronegativities of both atoms is relatively close and their properties are similar to that of ceramics or metals. Molybdenum Disilicide can be made electricallyconductive at high temperatures. A passivation layer with silicon dioxide can then be placed on the surface. This will prevent any further oxidation. It can be used as a high temperature antioxidation coating material, electric heating elements and integrated electrode films.
Molybdenum Siicide:
MoSi2 (intermediate phase) is the most silicon-rich in the Mo–Si binary alloy system. This is a Dalton-type, intermetallic compound having a fixed structure. This high-temperature material has great performance because of its dual qualities as a metal and ceramic. Excellent high temperature oxidation resistance. It can withstand temperatures up to 1600 degrees Celsius, equivalent to SiC. MoSi is soft and malleable, much like metal. MoSi is used mainly as an integrated circuit heating element, and for high-temperature anti-oxidation coatings.
MoSi2 consists of silicon and molybdenum bonded with metal bonds. In MoSi2, silicon and silicon are also bonded via covalent bonds. Molybdenum Disilicide is a gray, tetragonal crystalline. It is not soluble or soluble with common mineral acids such as aqua regia, but it can be dissolved in mixed acids of hydrofluoric and nitric acids. It can be used to heat elements in high-temperature (1700), oxidizing environments due to its high-temperature resistance.
An oxidizing environment forms a protective layer on the dense quartz (SiO2) surface. It is used to stop the continuous oxidation and oxidation molybdenum diicide. SiO2 fused with SiO2 at 1710degC is what forms a protective coating. The action of expanding its surface causes it to lose its protective power.
