What is Zirconium Carbide ZrC? Zirconium Carbide (ZrC), is a dark-gray cubic crystal that has metallic luster. Crispy. The melting point for butter is 3532. The boiling point is 5100. The density of the material is 6.73g/cm3. Mohs’ hardness is between 8 and 9. Hydrochloric acid and cold water make it insoluble. Hydrofluoric acid, hot concentrated sulfuric Acid containing hydrogen peroxide or nitric acids are the best solvents. At high temperatures, it reacts with chlorine to produce zirconium trichloride. Zirconia forms when it is ignited in the air at 700. ZrC is inert with water.

The material has high emissivity at high temperatures and high current capacities, which makes it ideal for field emitter tips or arrays as well as thermal photovoltaic radiation.
This material can be used to abrasive and incandescent filaments as well as for cermets and cladding.
